“I started my apprenticeship after a year at Cambridge CRC doing Electrical Level 3 and found the course was not practical enough for me to progress. Therefore, after writing to many companies I was successfully offered an apprenticeship with Cambridge Discount Electrical.
I also wrote and applied to Bishop Laney for a grant to help with tools and books for college. This was helpful because the tools in the trade can be very expensive and expire quickly.
I am now a qualified electrician and with Bishop Laney’s help I have achieved my goal and have the tools for me to carry on my career.”
Archie Harvey – Cambridge Discount
Final Year Electrical Installer
“The apprenticeship funding offered by the Bishop Laney Charity has helped me to purchase tools of a higher quality that I may not have been able to otherwise, instead of the more affordable DIY brands which when used daily can fail or wear out quickly.
There is such a wide variety of tools required to carry out my job that it would take a long time to build the collection required to work efficiently but with the aid of the charity this time is reduced. The flexibility of the choice of supplier has greatly helped expand the range of tools available.
A second crucial point is the importance to an apprentice that they are recognised in the workplace and their development is recorded over time giving them a genuine reason to succeed, this has certainly helped me.”Nathan Pawsey – Stephen Rutterford
Final Year Electrician
